Route: transdermal; dose form: patch, transdermal 72 hours; strength: 12 mcg/hour; dea controlled ii substance; individually sealed; contains five (12 mcg/hr) transdermal systems; store in original unopened pouch; store up to 20 c to 25 c (68 f to 77 f); strict adherence to the recommended handling and disposal instructions on product insert is of the utmost importance to prevent accidental exposure; exposure of fentanyl transdermal system application site and surrounding area to direct external heat sources, such as heating pads, saunas, hot tubs and heated water beds may increase fentanyl absorption and result in fatal overdose of fentanyl and death; patients who develop fever or increased core body temperature due to strenous exertion are also at risk for increased fentanyl exposure and may require an adjustment in the dose of fentanyl transdermal system to avoid overdose
