Ccounterbalance valve controls return oil flow in the lowering direction during normal hoisting; winch system controls hydraulic power to the winch for either normal hoisting and lowering, or constant tension functions; hydraulic power is applied to either a load or constant tension hydraulic motor; a counterbalance valve hydraulically locks the winch and keeps the load from dropping; a spring applied hydraulic release brake acts as a parking brake
