The taclan x-segment includes commercial off the shel (cots)component items that are either installed in rack-mounted transit cases or packaged in specially designed transit cases for ease of shipment and handling. When properly configured and connected to the dod joint worldwide intelligence communications system(jwics) domain, the x-segment kit it can extend jwics capability to tactical units at deployed locations. The x-segment kit is designed around a client/server model that supports a networking plug-and-play open architecture. Typically, it is transported to remote forward operating bases to establish local and/or wide area networks, and to provide common user and special purpose software applications
