An item specifically designed to indicate the presence of alternating current, pulsating direct current and/or static electricity by detecting the electrical field surrounding the object, such as a power line being tested without making physical contact. The method of indication may be audiable, such as a high pitched tone and/or visible, such as a flashing light(s).
