A multistage item consisting of a series of axial disk and blade assemblies and a centrifugal compressor rotor assembled together on a central shaft or axis. Air is impelled rearward by the blades of the axial stages of the rotor, by reason of blade angle and air foil contour, and is accelerated outward by the blades of the centrifugal section of the compressor, for the purpose of increasing the pressure of ambient air before impelling the air into the combustion chamber.
