The tactical-range thermal imager (trti) established the need to enhance a marines ability to observe/orient, detect and identify targets, conduct surveillance and assist in accurately engaging targets by fires during the day, night lighting conditions in limited visibility.

Properties:

A combination of items, such as a receiver, infrared, display unit, and the like which converts ambient scene thermal radiation into a form of energy that accurately depicts the spatial details of the scene. It is limited to a straight or backward field of view. It can be processed electronically or may be displayed visually to an operator as a still image. Excludes forward looking infrared imaging system.
